Building Malaysia's AI-native talent, on campus
A partnership proposal from KrackedDevs to City University Malaysia: campus builder hubs, AI modules inside the curriculum, and applied technology research.

City University's core values say it plainly, and this proposal is about both. KrackedDevs would like to work directly with the university on one thing: turning students and staff into people who can build with AI, and proving it. Three linked tracks do that.
Campus Builder Hubs
A KrackedDevs builder hub on each City U campus, starting at Cyberjaya: a room, a weekly build schedule, a student guild on the KrackedDevs platform, student ambassadors, and a public showcase of what gets built.
AI modules
Kracked Academy inside the university: a free three-hour Vibecoding 101 for every faculty, a 40-hour credit-sized Certified Vibecoder micro-credential, an AI Builder track aligned to the final year of the BCS (Artificial Intelligence), and train-the-trainer for lecturers.
Applied technology research
KD Labs as an industry research partner through the Research Management Centre: real problem statements and data from products we run, joint studies on build-first AI education, and joint grant bids.
What we ask of the university is modest: rooms and scheduling, one faculty champion per campus, student-affairs registration for the hub, Senate consideration of the credit-bearing module, and RMC as the research counterpart. What we bring is a running platform, a proven curriculum, facilitators, and the community that keeps students building between classes.
Proposed first step. A 60-minute scoping meeting and a walk of the Cyberjaya campus, followed by a free demonstration Vibecoding 101 for a mixed group of staff and students, so the university can judge the method on its own people before signing anything.
The university
Four campuses — Petaling Jaya, Cyberjaya, Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu — with the Faculty of Information Technology and every non-business faculty at the new Cyberjaya campus. More than 10,000 students on campus from 60 nationalities, 40,000 graduates, and 80+ programmes from foundation to PhD. A Bachelor of Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) (Hons) whose syllabus already carries Generative AI, Computational Thinking in Python, AI for Technology Venture, two project semesters, Industrial Training and Entrepreneurship. A City Graduate School with a PhD in IT, and a Research Management Centre whose stated objective is to increase collaborative R&D with the private sector.
The mission statement asks for graduates who are industry driven, market focused and future oriented and for young entrepreneurs for the global market. In the last five months the university has signed with the University of Bedfordshire, MODART International Paris and Ruanyun Edai Technology, and renewed with MACEE — a partnership rhythm we would like to join on the technology side.
The moment
Malaysia is funding AI awareness at national scale. The upgraded Rakyat Digital 2.0 portal launched on 11–12 August 2026; a government-funded Coursera pass runs in cohorts of 25,000 every quarter from 16 September; 100,000 Malaysians aged 18–30 receive free generative-AI tools from 31 August; and the portal's third layer — an AI Builders Hub for people who build — opens in October 2026.

Awareness is no longer the bottleneck. The bottleneck is builders — students who can sit down, open a laptop and ship something, and prove it to an employer. A campus that produces them, visibly, will stand out.
KrackedDevs is Malaysia's AI builder organisation, operated by RapidScreen (M) Sdn. Bhd. One entry point — a free community — feeds three verticals: Academy (learn by building), Labs (ship real products) and Market (get hired on proof of work). Our founder-led team of eleven built and runs the platform, the curriculum and the products below.

The method behind those numbers is simple. Participants with no coding background describe what they want, direct an AI to build it, learn what the AI gets wrong, and leave with a deployed product at a live URL — in about three hours. Rotican.ai, the build-and-deploy tool used in the room, is ours.
A builder hub is not a fit-out. It is a room the university already has, a schedule, and a guild on the KrackedDevs platform that gives every participant a Kracked ID, a public proof-of-work profile, and a place to keep building after the session ends.

Where
Cyberjaya first — the Faculty of IT and the BCS (AI) cohort are there. Then Petaling Jaya (Faculty of Business & Management: AI for business students), Johor Bahru, and Kota Kinabalu online-first with a physical session each term.
What the university gets
A visible, always-on builder community on campus. A public record of what its students build. A student-run activity that costs the university a room. And a campus ready to plug into national builder programmes — including the Rakyat Digital AI Builders Hub layer launching in October 2026 — as they open to institutions.
Kracked Academy is one ladder, one assessment model, one platform. Levels are earned by shipped work, not attendance.

Four ways to embed it at City U
- Vibecoding 101 for every faculty — free, three hours, Bahasa Malaysia and English. A co-curricular or orientation module for business, design, architecture, health sciences, education and hospitality students as much as IT; the format has already worked for students, working adults, SMEs, educators and retirees. Earns L1.
- L2 Certified Vibecoder as a 40-hour micro-credential. Designed to the MQA notional-hour rule (contact + independent learning + assessment = 40 hours = 1 credit) so the university can carry it under its own micro-credential route or as a co-badged credential. KrackedDevs supplies the curriculum, the open-AI judgment assessment, and a platform that records attendance, submissions, rubrics and reviewer identity as first-class records. Credentials issue as Open Badges 3.0.
- L3 Certified AI Builder aligned to BCS (AI) Year 3 — mapped onto subjects the programme already teaches, so it adds proof rather than hours (table below).
- Lecturers first. A train-the-trainer cohort of 6–10 City U staff so the university can co-deliver from the second semester, with a route to Kracked Mentor status. Staff AI competence is the human-resource result the university keeps whatever else happens.

How the assessment works
It tests judgment, not recall — and it lets candidates use AI while they sit it. A planted defect in AI-written code to find and explain. A client brief to turn into a prompt. A working app with a leaked key or an unprotected endpoint to flag. A "the AI produced this — is it right?" call. A cost-and-scope trade-off. From L3, a recorded walkthrough of the candidate's own project.
Through the Research Management Centre, the City Graduate School and the Faculty of IT, KD Labs proposes to be an industry research partner in four ways.
- Real problem statements, real data. Final-year, Masters and PhD topics drawn from products we operate: SUARA (Bahasa Malaysia-first voice AI — dialect and code-switching evaluation for ASR and TTS); KDVision (camera-based venue occupancy — privacy-preserving crowd analytics, deployed at Pesta Kopi 2026); Rotican.ai (managed AI agents — evaluation, cost governance, safety); JomQR (event-networking analytics). Students work on something deployed, with a supervisor on each side.
- Research on build-first AI education. We hold outcome data from national programme sessions. A joint study — ship rates, retention, assessment validity, what non-coders can and cannot do in three hours — publishable in CUeJAR and beyond, and useful to the university's own curriculum decisions.
- Joint grant bids. KrackedDevs as the industry partner on MOHE, MOSTI, MDEC or MyDIGITAL calls where an academic lead is required, with RMC as the administering office.
- Campus as living lab. KD Labs deployments at City U events — JomQR check-in and networking, KDVision occupancy — producing data for the studies above.
KD Labs already works with university research groups (voice AI with UiTM). Background IP stays with its owner; foreground IP is agreed per project; students always keep the right to showcase their own work.

City U intakes fall in January/February, May/June and September/October. The plan is set to the January 2027 semester so the pilot has a full term.
